St. James Cathedral Centre Event Venue
(Located at 65 Church Street)

 

The SJCC Event Venue is located in the heart of downtown Toronto at Adelaide and Church, within walking distance of King Station. Magnificently restored in 2012, it offers modern, multi-functional event space, with park views, and an abundance of natural light.

SJCC is located just north of The Cathedral Church of St James; the Centre has panoramic views of the Cathedral and beautiful St. James Park, which borders this gorgeous location along the east side of the property. This location is a staple of the film industry, offering a multitude of areas/venues of interest.

Whether you are in need of renting the Cathedral itself, one of our rental spaces for movies, TV shows, commercials, or if you are simply looking for BG holding and crew lunch space, SJCC Event Venue has something for everyone.

**All of our spaces are subject to availability. Access on Sundays is possible after 6pm onwards only.


Snell Hall

  • 3,120 sq. ft. flexible space, located on the main floor

  • With two full glass walls with plethora of light, overseeing the Cathedral and St. James Park

  • Suitable for BG holding/lunch space, building sets, filming

  • Can fit 200 seated in full rounds, with a buffet line, and space for changing tents


Library

  • 925 sq. ft., located on the main floor

  • With three big windows providing views of Church Street

  • A full glass wall overlooking adjacent hallway with a brick wall

  • Suitable for building sets, filming

  • Lights can be placed in the fenced grass area west of Library and of Church St.


Reception Area – Main Floor

  • Located on the main floor between Church Street entrance and ramp entrance

  • With a big glass window overseeing the Cathedral

  • Suitable for filming: Mon-Fri before 9am and after 5pm


Boardroom

  • 505 sq. ft. space, located on the 2nd floor

  • With a partial and a full glass wall (creating a glass wall corner), full of light. Overseeing the Cathedral and St. James Park.

  • Suitable for filming

  • Includes Italian modern design glass white built-in table with chairs. Table provides electrical outlets for laptops and electrical devices. Table removal is possible and estimated cost is $4,000.  An electrician is required to disconnect and re-connect all electrical connections.

  • Lights crane/lift/boom of maximum 16,500 lbs can be placed to the grass area on the West Lawn (near Brinton Vestry). Plywood base must be used at all times to protect the grass and to distribute the weight. The tiled area beside the Centre and the West Lawn cannot be used for such usage.


Dean’s Office

  • Approximately 700 sq. ft. space, located on the 2nd floor (beside the Boardroom)

  • With two full glass walls, proving an ambient light. Overseeing the Cathedral and St. James Park.

  • Suitable for filming

  • Lights crane/lift/boom of maximum 16,500 lbs can be placed to the grass area on the West Lawn (near Brinton Vestry). Plywood base must be used at all times to protect the grass and to distribute the weight. The tiled area beside the Centre and the West Lawn cannot be used for such usage.


Lecture Room

  • 1,020 sq. ft., located on the 2nd floor

  • With partial glass wall, providing a view of St. James Park

  • Suitable for BG holding/lunch space, filming, storage space when filming in Boardroom or Dean’s Office

  • Can fit up to 60 seated in full rounds, with a buffet line, and space for changing tents


Reception Area - 2nd Floor

  • Located on the 2nd floor, beside Boardroom

  • Please note that the reception desk is no longer available

  • Suitable for filming


Deanery

  • The very popular Deanery, a condominium apartment on the top floor is available to film groups again!

  • Access is limited, as the Dean and his family are currently living there. They are, however, willing to move out and make the space available for film shoots. They will require a reasonable length of time notice ahead of the shoot.

  • Includes open concept living space, multiple bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, courtyard, and wrap up Terrace

  • Features two floor-to-ceiling glass walls on South and East sides, overlooking the Cathedral and St. James Park

  • Suitable for filming


Community Room

  • 1,400 sq. ft. space, located in the lower level of the Centre

  • Suitable for BG holding/lunch space and potential filming

  • Can fit up to 120 seated in full rounds, with a buffet line, and space for changing tents

The Cathedral Church of St. James

(Located at 106 King Street East)

  • Beautiful 19-century Gothic revival Cathedral (Interior)

  • The Cathedral is open Monday-Saturday from 10:00am–3:00pm.

  • The Cathedral Centre offices are open Monday-Friday from 9:00am–4:00pm.

  • Regular church-related activities Mon to Fri:
    8:30am-8:45am Morning Prayer (Online)
    12:15pm-12:45pm Holy Eucharist

  • Regular church-related activities on Sundays:
    8:00am – Said Eucharist
    9:00am – Sung Eucharist
    11:00am – Choral Eucharist
    4:30pm – Choral Evensong

  • West Lawn (Cathedral’s exterior on the West side, towards Church St.)

  • East Lawn (Cathedral’s exterior on the East side, towards St. James Park). East Lawn border-lines with the end of the Centre’s parking lot.


Insurance

We request clients to provide a certificate of insurance with the following coverage:

  • general/commercial liability of not less than $10 million per occurrence,

  • together with tenant’s legal liability “broad form” of not less than $250,000 per occurrence (this coverage must be separately listed on the certificate)

  • in which ‘The Cathedral Church of St. James and The Incorporated Synod of the Diocese of Toronto’ are named/additional insureds.

License Agreement

The venue is happy to sign agreement templates provided by the Production.

The venue will provide full details (date / time / spaces / purpose / conditions agreed upon) that are to be included in the agreement.

Room rental rates and applicable fees are based on the nature of the project.

Cheques to be issued to: The Cathedral Church of St. James

Important - The fully signed agreement, full payment, and insurance certificate (evidence of required insurance) must be provided prior to each event.

Exploitation Clause

The Cathedral Church of St. James and the St. James Cathedral Centre Event Venue do not wish to be identified, thus do not agree to be represented as a real place. Therefore the agreement must be adjusted accordingly.
